Pedregalejo is a charming neighbourhood of Malaga. During the Middle Ages, its main industries were fishing and farming. In the 18th century, it gained popularity as a holiday resort for the city’s upper class. Impressive mansions and villas started to appear on the coastline.
By the 19th century, it was already a popular tourist destination. This was due to its wonderful beach, and the construction of the railway which provided easy access from the city centre. During this period, the first fishermen’s wharf was built, and the first fish-salting factory was created.
