Shopping in Malaga: a shopping spree in our most curious shops

This is the season for shopping. Christmas is coming soon and, if the day before we happen to be sightseeing in our wonderful city, why not give something from here as a present? Shopping in Malaga is also a real pleasure. Most of its shops are located in the centre, which is very pedestrianised. This gives it an added value as a tourist of incalculable value.

Let’s take a look at some of the shops that are worth a visit, beyond the souvenir shops that you’ll find everywhere (and which, therefore, we don’t need to recommend).

“Mapas y Compañia”: for the adventurer in you

For fifteen years now, this shop run by Cuqui and Juanjo, which started out on Calle Fajardo and is now located at 33, Compañía, is very close to the Carmen Thyssen Museum, so a visit when you’re shopping in Málaga is almost a must. Firstly, because the shop is almost another museum. Secondly, because it is a sin not to get lost among so many specialised books and maps. Thirdly, because the atmosphere is one of the best in the city. Between piles of travel books and world maps, numerous planets, globes and dirigibles hanging from the ceiling keep watch over us. Corazón de tiza: very personal fashion at great prices

If you like those shops you’d like to live in, Corazón de tiza is the place for you. Fashion, yes; but with a very personal touch and in a setting so well cared for that you could spend hours inside. Organic cotton dresses, wool jackets and delicate pieces of costume jewellery are just some of the treasures available at very affordable prices. Veganized: for those who are committed to a different lifestyle

Surely you’ve heard of vegan food, but vegan fashion? Does it exist? Of course it does. Veganized is the example that being vegan is not just about not eating animal-based foods. It is a philosophy of life that, in line with this, brings its way of thinking into fashion. The materials used to make the clothes (and shoes) at Veganized are free of leather and have not been tested on animals. Organic cotton, hemp, rubber…, are just some of the products that are in the composition of the garments. So, if you embrace this way of life or know someone who does, you can easily get a gift for him or her from this shop. Who said you couldn’t buy 100% vegan products in Malaga?

La Casa Amarilla: do you feel like giving art as a gift?

Just a few minutes walk from there is La Casa Amarilla. It’s not really a shop, but a space run by art experts (which does have a shop). Every so often they change the work of the artists they show, but there are always about 20 of them in the gallery itself with their work for sale. Of course, we’re talking about modern art. If more traditional art is your thing, patience: we’ve thought of you too.

Extravirgen: buy olive oil in Malaga (and much more)

Andalusia is probably the land of olive oil par excellence. Not the only one, it is true, but the most typical. Extravirgen, a shop located in calle Granada, 84, almost next to the Plaza de la Merced, was born from the fame of our olive oils. As well as being able to buy excellent oils in Malaga (which, of course, you can try) you will find many other products made with what has come to be known as “liquid gold”. You will also find other gourmet products. For example, an excellent selection of wines and foods grouped under the Sabor a Málaga brand.

Benedito: traditional, quality art

Earlier we were talking about other art galleries. Those with a more traditional public and offer. Among them is Benedito. If you feel like buying art in Malaga (and from Malaga), you have to come here. In the heart of the Jewish quarter, just a few metres from Extravirgen, stands this historic gallery which, as well as having paintings for sale, has its doors open to anyone who wants to visit it

Srta. White Shop: very different brands in a single shop

Decorated with countless vintage details, Miss White Shop is one of those shops where you can lose yourself for a while. And it is because it will please all tastes and all budgets. In this shop they work with different brands, from Pepa Loves to Compañía Fantástica, Maggie Sweet or Behulah. It’s the perfect place to find that dress or that t-shirt for your girlfriend, sister or niece who loves fashion but is a bit tired of the big stores.

Golden Tips: coffee, tea, chocolate and… more

If you are a tea lover, you should not miss Golden Tips. But not only because there you will find an incredible variety of specialities (also coffee), believe us. On their website, which we have linked to, you can find a calendar with the next days in which tastings are organised. This makes it much more than just a shop. A delight for the senses that you won’t forget.

Detalletes: original and very cute gifts

If there’s one shop in Malaga that we love for its originality, it’s Detalletes. It’s the perfect shop to buy just the right gift, something to make a good impression on someone but you don’t want to spend too much money on. Well: from cool mouse pads to socks with messages, to blankets, trays, mugs… It is also an ideal place to buy that little gift for a newborn among friends or family. You have a huge variety of products. Of course, all of them are very cute.

Comic Stores: for the most geeky shopperss

In SoHo, one of the city’s coolest neighbourhoods, you’ll find Comic Stores, one of those shops that invites visitors to stay for hours on end. First, because the countless aisles full of comics invite you to read. Secondly, because of the enormous number of games (board games, role-playing games, card games…) that you can buy. No matter what you are looking for, they are sure to have it or can find it. And thirdly, because of the wide range of merchandising that you will find. Statues, jewellery, miniatures, dolls… From who? From all over the world. From superheroes, like Batman or Superman, to series, like Breaking Bad. Asterix, Astro Boy or the characters from Dungeons and Dragons, to give just a few examples, you’ll also find them there. You can’t miss it!
