The 2020 Goya Awards will be held in Malaga: activities in our city

Malaga has been chosen for the 34th edition of the Goya Awards. The ceremony will be held next Saturday 25th January at the Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena and during the days leading up to it, the streets of the city will be filled with different activities. If, like us, you are a lover of Spanish cinema, take note and be sure to visit us as you will be able to enjoy meetings with the nominees, round tables, screenings and two exhibitions.

A film buff’s dream

The emblematic Albéniz cinema will screen each of the 5 films nominated for Best Film. Admission to each screening is free until full capacity is reached and there is a big surprise, they will all be presented by artists nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role, great directors or screenwriters. Would you like to have Antonio Banderas close to you?

Programme:

Monday 13 January at 16:00 hrs:

Dolor y Gloria directed by Pedro Almodóvar (16 nominations) will be presented by Antonio Banderas who is nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

Wednesday 15th January at 19:00 hrs:

La Trinchera Infinita directed by Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga (15 nominations). The film will be presented by Antonio de la Torre who is also nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

Thursday 16 January at 18:30 hrs:

Intemperie (5 nominations). It will be presented by its director and co-writer, Benito Zambrano.

Sunday, January 20th 19:00 hrs:

Mientras Dure la Guerra directed by the acclaimed director Alejandro Amenábar (nominated for 17 awards) will be presented by Santi Prego.

22nd January 19:00 hrs:

O que Arde directed by Oliver Laxe (4 nominations) will be presented by Andrea Vázquez.

In addition to all this, and as if this were not enough, all those who attend the nominated screenings will be able to participate in a raffle with a prize that is hard to get: a double invitation to attend the 2020 Goya Awards ceremony. Are you going to miss it?

Goya Awards 2020 Exhibitions

Get close to the emotion of the most magical night of Spanish cinema in the two exhibitions that will take place from 13 to 30 January. First, come to the beautiful Plaza de la Merced as it will be the setting for 38 large-format snapshots featuring some of the stars of the awards in recent years. Then, visit Alcazabilla Street where Pepa Flores, Goya of Honour 2020, will be the protagonist of a photographic exhibition by César Lucas.

Having your photo taken with a Goya Award replica

Tourists and locals will be able to have their photo taken with a replica of the Goya Award and discover the recreation of the photocall of the 34th edition of the event from 20 to 24 January at Malaga City Hall (Avda. de Cervantes, 4).

Photo times: from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 21:00.

Round table with leading Andalusian artists from Spanish cinema

With free admission until full capacity is reached, on 23 January at 19:00, the contemporary culture centre La Térmica will be the meeting place for the round table discussion ‘From Malaga to the Goyas’ between Adelfa Calvo, María Barranco, Natalia de Molina and the public. The actresses will talk about the evolution of their careers since their beginnings and their awards and nominations in the different editions of the Goya Awards. The event will be moderated by journalist and writer Valeria Vegas.

After the meeting you will be able to enjoy several musical sessions:

Concert by the group Monterrosa at 9 p.m.

DJ session by Carlos Areces at 22.30 in the courtyards of La Térmica.

Ibero-American cinema and composers

You can attend a free meeting with the Ibero-American directors nominated in the feature film category. This year the Chilean “Araña”, the Costa Rican “El despertar de las hormigas”, the Argentinian “La odisea de los giles” and the Colombian “Monos” are nominated for the Goya. Andrés Wood, Antonella Sudasassi, Sebastián Borenzstein and Alejandro Landes will be at the Picasso Museum in Málaga on 24 January at 19:00.

Additionally, in the auditorium of the art gallery at 20:30, the nominees for Best Soundtrack will be talking at another round table: Arturo Cardelús (Buñuel en el laberinto de las tortugas), Alberto Iglesias (Dolor y gloria), Pascal Gaigne (La trinchera infinita) and Alejandro Amenábar (Mientras dure la guerra) are waiting for you.
